Water paths and the Landscape -
My artistic exploration focuses on identity, location and responsibility. The waters of all rivers are the life source and evidence of our imprint and impact on the land. They form the relationship between the space of nature and human interventions into this space.
Waters of Place - Waters of Space - Waters of Site - Waters of Memory
My practice is a response to the degradation and changed state of our major river systems, with particular reference to the most important water path of my childhood, the Murray River. This riverine environment is integral to me - as the signifier that contains memory, place and identity My works are concerned with both the poetic and the environmental fragility of the Murray-Darling Basin - extremes exploring aspects of space and memory of place, where the artist acts as alchemist, creating both an intimate site and an infinite space. One of my most recent projects was located at Lake Mungo - it included images in petrie dishes and large-scale digital prints evoking aerial landscapes of the river system and an installation of 3D structures, mixed media and sound.
