Artist Statement
Generally, my work doesn't deal with themes as specific as sustainability, environment and community.
However, in some examples, I have consciously tried to evoke a sense of land, usually through the choice and application of colours that unify a composition.
Emergent Forms is such a picture, where I have tried to create rhythms and symbols embedded in a field of colour reminiscent of the Australian environment. The forms are like nascent spirits in the landscape: not ancestral or deified as with indigenous art about relationship to the land, but more a dreamlike visualisation of potential communities and human interaction that a first-time beholder might imagine in a virgin site. Like John Batman first seeing the site of Melbourne.
